Speaker Hook-up and Placement
Position your speakers according to
the following recommendations to
maximize your Home Theater
experience.
For best surround sound quality :
The rear speakers can be placed either
behind you or to the side depending
on your furnishings and the shape of
your room. They can be placed on
stands or mounted on the rear walls
using brackets that are available from
your dealer.
Alternatively they can be mounted on
the side walls. The ideal height for the
rear speakers is  2-3 feet above the
listening area.
The left and right front speakers can
be placed directly beside or up to 3-4
feet on either side of your television.
The center speaker should be placed
on top of or below your television.
The subwoofer can be placed just
about any place in your listening room
without being heard as a distinct
source, because very low frequencies
are non-directional in nature.
A typical location for the subwoofer is
somewhere along the front wall, near
the TV or one of the front speakers.
But you can also use any of the room
corners with excellent results.
Connect the speaker wires from the
left and right rear speakers 1 & 2 to
the appropriate “SURROUND
SPEAKERS” terminals on the back
panel of your A/V receiver.
Connect the speaker wire from your
center speaker 3 to the “CENTER
SPEAKER” terminals on the back
panel of your A/V receiver.
Connect the cable from your
subwoofer 4 to the “SUB
WOOFER” output jack on the back
panel of your A/V receiver.
Connect the speaker wires from the
left and right front speakers 5 & 6
to the appropriate “FRONT
SPEAKERS” terminals on the back
panel of your A/V receiver.
Refer to the next page for details.

2002 HOME THEATER GUIDE
Connections: DVD to A/V Receiver
Use a commercially available coaxial or optical cable
to connect your DVD player and AIWA A/V
receiver.
Connect the digital audio output terminal of your
DVD player directly to “COAXIAL or OPTICAL”
digital input terminal of your AIWA A/V receiver.
If both coaxial and optical connections are available,
select only one of the two.
If you are connecting a DVD player with a built-in
decoder, you can connect it to the “5.1CH INPUT”
terminals on your receiver as well. Follow the
instructions supplied with the DVD player and
receiver.
* In some cases, picture noise may appear when playing copy
protected DVDs if the DVD video output is connected to the
receiver.
If you experience this anomaly, please connect the DVD video
output directly to the TV bypassing the receiver.
