Specific Shutter Speeds and 
Aperture Values ([M] Mode)

Follow these steps before shooting to set your preferred shutter speed 
and aperture value to obtain the desired exposure.
For details on available shutter speeds and aperture values, see “Camera” 
Enter [ ] mode.
 
Set the mode dial to [ ].
Configure the setting.
 
Press the [ ] button, choose adjustment 
of shutter speed (1) or aperture value (2), 
and turn the [
] dial to specify a value.
 
An exposure level mark (4) based on 
your specified value is shown on the 
exposure level indicator for comparison to 
the standard exposure level (3).
 
The exposure level mark is shown in 
orange when the difference from standard 
exposure exceeds 2 stops.

Movies
Set your preferred aperture value before shooting as follows. The camera 
automatically adjusts the shutter speed to suit your aperture value.
Enter [
] mode.
 
Set the mode dial to [
].
Set the aperture value.
 
Turn the [
] dial to set the aperture 
value.
 
Orange display of shutter speed when you press the shutter 
button halfway indicates that the settings deviate from standard 
exposure. Adjust the aperture value until the shutter speed is 
displayed in white, or use safety shift (see below).

]: Aperture value (size of the opening made by the iris in the 
lens)
 
To avoid exposure problems in [
] and [
] modes, press 
the [
] button and set [Safety Shift] on the [
] tab to [On] 
(= 29) to automatically adjust the shutter speed or aperture 
value of the camera, even when standard exposure cannot 
otherwise be obtained. However, safety shift is disabled when the 
flash fires.
